The Abia State Police Command has arrested two young men in connection with alleged armed robbery, cultism, and the vandalisation of government property.
The suspects were identified as Michael Kalu, 21, from Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State but resident in Amuma, Ohafia, Abia State, and Obinna Chimezie, 23, of Aba, Abia State.
In a press release issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, the command said the arrests were made following credible intelligence.
According to the statement, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) arrested Michael Kalu on May 6, 2026. He is suspected to be an armed robber and cultist. One English pistol and one locally made pistol were recovered from him.
Separately, operatives from the Osisioma Divisional Police Headquarters apprehended Obinna Chimezie while he was allegedly vandalising a gas pipeline belonging to Geometric Power along the Enugu/Port Harcourt Expressway. A toy shotgun was recovered from him, and the tent used for suspected drug-related activities at the scene was destroyed.
The police said both suspects are currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), where investigations are ongoing. They will be arraigned in court as soon as investigations are concluded.
The Abia State Police Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state. Commissioner of Police Danladi Isa urged residents to continue providing timely and useful information to the nearest police station to help tackle crime in the state.
