The attention of the public has been drawn to a viral voice recording currently circulating on social media, in which the late Igwe Akuma is heard repeatedly mentioning the name of the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu. Disturbingly, this voice note is being circulated as Igwe’s last words after being shot and before he died
This development has raised several critical questions that deserve careful and objective consideration:
1.Is it plausible that a person allegedly shot in the heart and head would still possess the strength and composure to shout, operate a phone, record a voice note, and share it across multiple WhatsApp groups? Because it was the same Igwe Akuma that shared the Voice note in many WhatsApp groups long before he died! The WhatsApp groups to check are Ohafia Summit, Ohafia LGA Political Platform, Ohafia Youths Decide, Ohafia Newsroom etc
2.For those who claim to have witnessed the shooting and his evacuation, why was no video recorded of him making these utterances at the scene?
3.Why does only a voice recording exist, with no visual evidence, despite the prevalence of mobile phones at such incidents?
While it is acknowledged that Igwe Akuma may indeed have made the voice recording, there are strong reasons to believe that it was not recorded at the time of the shooting nor at the point of his death! Rather, evidence suggests that this voice note was part of a recurring pattern in which he repeatedly raised alarms while consistently mentioning and implicating the Deputy Governor in issues unrelated to him.
This pattern has been observed on several occasions, including but not limited to the following:
1.EREI Farm Land Issue:
When the Abia State Government issued a directive against encroachment on government lands, including EREI Farm, Igwe Akuma alleged that the Deputy Governor intended to confiscate the land for personal use—an allegation that was entirely false.
2.Arrest of Okon Development Union PG:
Following the arrest of the then President-General of the Okon Development Union for selling a government-owned reservoir tank at EREI Farm and paid the money into his personal account, Igwe Akuma who was the then Vice President of the same union again accused the Deputy Governor of targeting and intimidating Okon youths, despite clear evidence that government property had been unlawfully sold.
3.Councillorship Election Loss:
After losing the last councillorship election as a PDP member, Igwe Akuma publicly accused the Deputy Governor of using thugs to manipulate the election—another claim that was unfounded because the Deputy Governor was no where close to Okon during the electionary period!
4.Okon Kingship Dispute:
During the period of kingship selection involving the Ezieogo and Autonomous kings, the Deputy Governor formally intervened by writing to Ndi Okon and setting up a committee to oversee the process in line with Okon and Ohafia customs and traditions. When the outcome did not favor Igwe Akuma, he alleged that the Deputy Governor was imposing kings on the community—an allegation that was also false.
5.Assault by Angry Youths:
On an occasion when Igwe Akuma was reportedly assaulted by youths for allegedly passing through a sacred place against advice, he again accused the Deputy Governor, claiming the attackers were his loyalists. Records show that the Deputy Governor was not even in Abia State at the time and had no knowledge of the incident.
6.The Present Incident:
Once again, the Deputy Governor’s name has been raised in connection with Igwe Akuma’s death, despite no established evidence of any dispute or involvement.
Given this repeated pattern, it is reasonable to question whether there was a calculated attempt to continually associate and discredit the Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu of Amaekpu Ohafia, particularly by portraying him as being in constant conflict with Okon.
It is deeply unfair and unjust for individuals or groups to drag the Deputy Governor’s name into this tragic incident. Such actions suggest the presence of ulterior motives—possibly aimed at undermining his office or, by extension, targeting the administration of His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti. These attempts will not succeed.
While I seriously condemn the killing of Igwe Akuma and the burning down of houses and properties I would also enjoin the public to be careful with what we alledge because The truth will always prevail, and no amount of misinformation can derail the progress of the new Abia State we are collectively building.
Again I call on those that have the information on who pulled the trigger to please give it to the security agencies so that this can be sorted out once and for all!
Ndi Ohafia, we can and must do better.
