The ongoing power tussle within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has come under fierce attack from Ambassador Dr. Osita Offor “De Ultimate Commander” (Ikenga Gburugburu of Ohafia Ancient Kingdom) who has openly accused key figures in the party of pursuing personal political interests at the expense of the people.
Ambassador Offor did not mince words in his criticism of the struggle between Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, describing it as a desperate scramble for control driven by ambition rather than any genuine concern for the welfare of Abians.
According to him, the battle for dominance within the party is clear proof that the interests of the Kalu bloc have never been about good governance, but about retaining influence and positioning themselves for power ahead of the 2027 elections.
He argued that while the APC leadership in the state is preoccupied with internal supremacy fights and seeking favor at the national level, the real business of governance is being neglected. Offor maintained that the people of Abia are no longer interested in recycled political dominance, but in leadership that delivers tangible results.
Taking a swipe at both camps, Offor insisted that their actions expose a pattern of old-order politics where public interest is secondary to personal gain. He described the situation as a “struggle for control, not a struggle for the people,” stressing that Abians can clearly see through what he termed political opportunism.
Ambassador Offor further contrasted the APC’s internal crisis with what he believes is the performance of Governor Alex Otti, noting that governance should be about measurable impact rather than political scheming. He suggested that the progress made under the current administration has already set a standard that self-serving political actors cannot match.
In his remarks, Offor also dismissed the APC’s 2027 calculations as premature and disconnected from the realities on ground, arguing that no amount of internal realignment can convince the electorate if the party fails to demonstrate genuine commitment to public welfare.
He concluded that the ongoing power tussle within the APC is not a sign of strength, but evidence of a leadership crisis rooted in personal ambition—one that ultimately reinforces why the party struggles to gain the trust of the people in Abia State.
